About Carlos Leyva                           Page 2 of 6

The house we grew up in was about 5 blocks from a secluded beach. I took advantage of that as much as I could. Sometimes ditching school and walking for miles and miles, and hours and hours, enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. There were seagulls, dolphins, sea lions, rock hopping, sand between the toes, and always plenty of sunshine. Needless to say, the beach was (and still is) one of my favorite places to be. One of my best friends owns a boat in the Santa Barbara harbor, and I always have an open invitation to stay there (and the keys, too). I started working at a very young age, I remember going door to door asking if there was anything that I could do or help around the house to make a few extra bucks. One time after pulling weeds for what seemed like all day, this lady when I was done handed me a check for two dollars. Humm, a CHECK? "What the heck is a check", I thought. Anyway, I went back home and showed it to my mom and she worked everything out so that I could get some real money out of this check thing.  In jr high school I found out that some kids actually like the hot lunch from the program I was in,soooooo as soon as I found that out, guess what was up for sale everyday? You got it, LUNCH COUPONS for a buck or two.
